Swedish retailer IKEA is piloting a new rental model for office furniture as part of a new strategic direction.
The trial is set to begin in Switzerland later this month and offers businesses the ability to lease furniture.
An IKEA spokesperson told OPI: “In certain markets, such as Switzerland, we’re exploring and testing potential solutions and have a pilot project to look into the leasing of furniture, but it’s still too early to confirm exactly what this will look like.”
IKEA added that the trial is part of a wider ambition to become a fully circular business by 2030, which it will achieve through developing new ways for people to buy, care for, and pass on products.
The proposal will see IKEA become less reliant on its traditional retail structure, and it appears that the Swiss trial is a step towards in achieving its sustainability goal for 2030.
