France has become the fourth market for Amazon’s Counter click-and-collect service in partnership with local bricks-and-mortar retailers.

After the UK, Italy and – in June of this year – the US, Amazon Counter was officially launched in France today. The first retailer partner in the country is newsagency network Maison de la Presse with more than 100 outlets offering the Counter service. This number is expected to increase to more than 1,000 by the end of the year.

Amazon said that over time it planned to expand Counter to “several thousand” collection points throughout France, working with national chains, local retailers and small businesses. “Companies of all sizes can benefit from the development of the Counter network,” noted Ronan Bolé, Amazon France’s Operations Director.

Counter is part of Amazon’s Hub delivery solutions that also include lockers. So far, there are about 1,000 Amazon Lockers in France, but this number is expected to increase dramatically following an agreement earlier this year with retail giant Groupe Casino.
